Working with young people and communities in the process of recovery from the devastation of bush fires and developing resilience is a long-term effort. Assistance and support is ongoing ensure aspirations are achieved.
The Bush Fire Recovery Program seeks to:
Join with young people who have experienced challenges to build the resilience and skills needed to create the future they envisage.
In doing so, we hope to:
- Strengthen mental health protective factors including resilience, positive social networks, positive community links, re-engagement with community, development of aspirational attitudes and goals, and reconnection to place
- Reduce the vulnerability to mental health risk factors such as social isolation, history of traumatic experience, breakdown of peer and family relationships, low academic attainment, drug and alcohol abuse and reduced sense of environmental safety
- Re-engage with education
